At SHICS Health Care Solutions, we provide compassionate, person-centered dementia care focused on maintaining independence, promoting safety, and preserving each individual's dignity.
Dementia affects every person differently, and care needs may change over time. Whether your loved one lives at home, in an assisted living community, or in another residential setting, our dementia-experienced caregivers can provide temporary, ongoing, or respite support tailored to the individual's routines, preferences, abilities, and needs.
Our caregivers are trained in compassionate communication, reassurance, redirection, and other supportive techniques that help reduce anxiety, encourage cooperation, and allow clients to feel respected and in control.
Our Approach to Dementia Care
- Offer reassurance and validation. We avoid arguing or correcting unnecessarily. Instead, we acknowledge the person's feelings and respond with patience and understanding.
- Allow plenty of time. We provide calm, step-by-step assistance with everyday activities such as dressing, bathing, eating, and moving safely throughout the home.
- Use gentle redirection. When a client becomes confused, anxious, or agitated, we may redirect their attention through music, conversation, a favorite snack, a familiar activity, or a short walk.
- Communicate calmly and clearly. Our caregivers maintain a kind demeanor, make appropriate eye contact, speak slowly, and use simple, respectful language.
- Simplify choices. We ask one question at a time and offer a limited number of options to help prevent frustration or confusion.
- Create meaningful and joyful moments. As we get to know each client, we identify familiar activities that bring comfort and happiness, such as looking through photographs, listening to favorite music, sharing memories, or discussing treasured objects.
Respite and Support for Family Caregivers
Caring for a spouse or loved one with dementia can be physically and emotionally demanding. SHICS caregivers and nurses provide dependable respite support so family caregivers can rest, attend appointments, take a vacation, manage personal responsibilities, or simply take time to recharge.
Our goal is to provide families with peace of mind while helping each client remain safe, comfortable, engaged, and treated with dignity.
